Frequently Asked Questions

Information about Group Tours

Group tours are limited to school groups only. To qualify as a school group tour, the prospective student group must be from a high school (10th-12th grade) or associated with a college bound program based at a college or university. If you are visiting with at least 10 students in your group reservations are required. We respectfully request that you limit your group to no more than 40 students. Group tours can also be arranged to include an information session with an admissions staff member.

What grade levels can take a group tour?
High school grades 10 - 12 or groups of college transfer students can be accommodated. Elementary or middle school students cannot be accommodated in a group setting through our office. If you have a group of students in this age group, you are more than welcome to visit Georgia Tech on your own, and we would encourage you to visit http://www.copp.gatech.edu/ to learn about campus touring opportunities geared towards younger students. The Atlanta visitor guide is also a good resource at http://www.atlanta.net/
What if I want to bring a group of non-students to visit campus?
We cannot accommodate group tours for non- school groups. Information about our self-guided walking/driving tour and Podcast tour of Georgia Tech can be found at http://www.visits.gatech.edu/weekend/
Who gives the tour and how long do the tours last?
A current Georgia Tech undergraduate will lead the students on a 75-90 minute walk around campus. Tour groups are able to see campus common areas such as the Student Center as well as typical classrooms, dining hall, and a dorm room. Some of the highlights include the Campus Recreation Center and the Chandler Baseball Stadium. Our tour guides can also give riding bus tours of campus on your bus. This type of tour is encouraged and widely used by many groups and generally lasts 20 minutes. If you have more than one tour bus, generally one tour guide per bus is allotted. Your tour guide will also direct your bus driver around the streets of campus while giving the tour.
Is there a fee for the tour?
No.

Do we have to make a reservation for the tour?
Yes. Group tour reservations are mandatory, and we require a minimum of four (4) weeks advance notice when making a reservation.
What are the busiest times for tours?
Group tours are generally most popular in March and late Spring. You will need to check with the tours coordinator to see if a particular date and time is available.
Can an information session be included?
Yes. The group has the opportunity to meet with an admissions staff member before their tour. It is mandatory to make a reservation in advance if you would like an information session. A room must be reserved in advance and the session will last approximately 45 minutes to one hour.
How can I schedule a campus tour?
You may call (404) 894-1966 or email admissions@gatech.edu to check availability and request a reservation.
How will my tour reservation be confirmed?
You will receive a confirmation letter through regular US mail after your tour is booked with the tours coordinator. The letter will include a confirmation of your scheduled visit, parking and driving information, and other materials pertinent to your visit.
Can I change the day or time of a Group Tour?
Changes can only be made if the request is made at least one week in advance and space is available. If you need to cancel a reservation, please do so at least one week in advance. Groups that do not cancel a reservation and do not show up will not be permitted to reschedule.
What if it is raining / planning to rain for my tour?
Bus tours will not be affected. Walking tours will still proceed if the rain is light to moderate. Walking tours will not go out in severe weather or if there is a chance for severe weather in the near future in the best interest of all parties involved.
What should I wear for the tour?
Visitors taking bus tours can wear what they wish. Visitors on walking tours should wear casual clothes. Walking shoes are highly suggested. If rain is the forecast, don't forget an umbrella or poncho!
Can we get a campus map and directions?
Included in your confirmation packet will be directions to campus and a campus map. For an online campus map (with a printable PDF format): http://www.visits.gatech.edu/maps/
What about parking?
Parking varies depending on the type of group and how many people are in the group. You should consult your confirmation letter for directions concerning parking.
As a group leader, what should I bring?
You should bring a copy of your confirmation letter, and the information we mailed to you so you know where to park and when to arrive.
Where can I find a list of hotels in the area?
You can find a listing of where to stay when visiting Georgia Tech at: http://www.visits.gatech.edu/lodging/
