Transfer admission to Georgia Tech is selective as more applications from qualified students are received than can be accommodated. All transfer applicant must meet the following minimum requirements by completing the specific courses intended by major, total number of credit hours, and minimum Grade Point Average (GPA), all at another institution, in order to be considered for possible admission to Georgia Tech. Successful candidates for admission will be selected from the pool of applicants that meet or exceed these requirements, which vary by major. A transfer applicant must apply for one specific major and will be evaluated based on the criteria for that major.
- A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours that are transferable to Georgia Tech.
- All of the specifically required courses on the Course Requirements by Major chart for the prospective major.
- The minimum GPA for the prospective major, which applies to both the overall GPA and the GPA of the student's math and science courses, as outlined below.
The minimum number of transferable hours must include the required courses for the prospective major. Further, the minimum total of transferable hours must be from actual in-class coursework. Advanced Placement (AP) or other type of credits by exam can be used to fulfill specific course requirements, but additional coursework must be completed via in-class credits. (Thus, students using AP or other such credits towards the course requirements must have more than 30 semester or 45 quarter hours to complete this aspect of the requirements.) There is no maximum number of hours that a student may transfer, however all degree-seeking students must complete at least 36 semester hours at Georgia Tech.
Access the transfer equivalencies table on oscar web to see how coursework from many colleges and universities will transfer to Georgia Tech at https://oscar.gatech.edu . Enter the first letter of the school whose coursework you wish to compare, then click "Continue". Choose the school, then click "Get Courses".
None of the required courses may be taken at Georgia Tech as they are actual pre-requisites for admission consideration. They must be completed at another institution before an admission decision can be made. These courses must be equivalent to the corresponding Georgia Tech courses as described on the Course Requirements by Major chart and the Transfer Equivalencies website. Enter the first letter of the school whose coursework you wish to compare, then click "Continue". Choose the school, then click "Get Courses".
For students considering the Georgia Tech Savannah campus, these additional courses are required for admission.
- Linear Algebra
If calculus does not include Linear Algebra, completion of this course is required prior to enrolling.
- Differential Equations (4 semester hours)
- Physics II (calculus based) must be a course (lecture and lab) equivalent to Georgia Tech’s PHY 2212 (4 semester hours)
- Students majoring in Civil or Mechanical Engineering are expected to have the equivalent of the following Georgia Tech courses.
CEE 1770/ME 1770 Engineering Graphics & Graphics (3 semester hours)
- Students majoring in Electrical or Computer Engineering are expected to have the equivalent of the following Georgia Tech courses:
ECE 2030 Introduction to Computer Engineering (3 semester hours)
CS 1371 Computing for Engineers (3 semester hours)
Effective October 2008 for students applying for Summer Semester 2009 and later.
Based on the US 4.0 GPA system, the minimum GPA requirement for most majors is 2.7 for Georgia residents, 3.0 for non-Georgia US residents, and 3.5 for international students. Because admission to Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering is highly competitive, applicants to these programs must have a GPA of at least 3.0 for Georgia residents, 3.5 for non-Georgia US residents, and 3.8 for international students. The GPA requirement applies to both the overall GPA (all courses taken at all schools) and the GPA of an applicant's math and science courses. Further, all applicants must be in good standing during the last term of enrollment at their prior institutions.
